Getting Jiggy with the iPhone

A chap I work with and who has a 1st Gen iPhone has been using Jiggy for a while.

There have been rumors that Sun will be creating a JMV for the iPhone. This would be cool as to date Apple has taken the job on of creating a JVM for OS X and it has resulted in slow updates to the JVM and no JVM for the iPhone.

I am learning Objective-C at the moment which I posted about, but I am a Java person really and so creating apps for the iPhone in Java is something which interests me a great deal.

At the moment a JVM does not exist and that’s where Jiggy comes in. Jiggy is a dev environment and software which allows you to create native iPhone apps in JavaScript. You have access to the iPhone API, not everything but a lot, and you can use the native controls making your app look just like it was written in Obj-C.

You had to jailbreak your 1st Gen iPhone to run Jiggy and I’ve not seen a version yet for the 2nd Gen iPhone, but it really does look cool and something I am looking forward to trying out.
